Telling Tales Out of School – in advance.
From Wiktionary:
It’s cold outside, and many of us are still full of the too-much-cheese-and-cake (and cheesecake) we consumed during the last weeks of December. However here in New Album Land (or the aptly named Elliot Linden Studios) things are getting close to finished. I just spent yesterday doing vocal retakes for two of the songs on the new album, and Terrance has been working to do remixes of everything so that there is a consistent feel and flow through the album.
Given all that, I thought that maybe it was time to share a little bit of a peek with you all.
So yes, I am telling tales out of school about an album that is to be called… well…
As I was collecting the songs for this album, I recognized that just about all of them are story songs. And not all of them are stories from my point of view. One of the great pleasures I get in life is while traveling to pay attention to the people around me and imagine their lives. Either that or there are stories that I enjoy playing out in my head. The songs on this album give voice to those stories.
Each of these comes from someone telling their truth. A truth that is in love, hurting, discovering; a voice of horror, of anxiety, of laughter, of caution, of hope, of satire, and finally one of acceptance.
The songs are:
- I Am Not Well
- Apropos of Nothing
- Heart of a Young Man
- It’s Alright
- Long Road
- I Got Mine
- Dossier
- Careful What You Wish For
- All’s Well That Ends
I will have more to say on each of the songs when I put the liner notes together for the collection. My intent is to share the album packaging here on the website, as well as in the final CD case.
In the meantime, just know that the final sanding and polishing is happening here. I am so very happy with these songs, and as a formal launch, I am planning to hold both a live in-person show and a virtual event. For the in-person show I hope to get a small band together, and we’ll rock out and make some great noise. And the virtual event will probably be me, a guitar, and a camera.
In the meantime, a couple of these songs may very well be featured in two upcoming performances I’m doing. On Sunday, February 4, I’ll be back again on Open Mic America. You’ll be able to find details on the Open Mic America website and I will also post them here. On March 2, I will be part of an International Singer Songwriters Association (ISSA) event at One Broadway in Lawrence, MA. This event will be both in-person and online. I will post those details here as well once I have them.
Thanks again for being with me on this journey. I’m having a tremendous amount of fun with this, and I hope that you enjoy these songs and this collection as much as I have enjoyed putting them together. Even more importantly, I hope that one or more of them has something that sparks a smile, warms your heart, or maybe even gives you a thought to bring along with you through your day.
-Chris
