Ten Years of Music and Random Thoughts

On October 30, 2015, I put up my first post here (as well as the rest of this website). I didn’t know if anyone would read it, and I certainly didn’t have any particular plan to still be writing it ten years later. Yet here we are.

A weathered building with shuttered windows and a balcony, with various people walking along the street in front.

What started as a place to share the stories behind the songs has become its own kind of companion to the music: a way to trace how life, memory, and chance encounters all weave their way into words and songs. The music has always been the center of gravity, but writing these posts has reminded me how deeply the songs are tied to the living of a life: the doubts, the fatigue, the small (and large) triumphs, the missed turns, the conversations that continue.

Over the years, I’ve been floored by the response. Thousands (well, dozens and then a few more) people have visited, read along, and reached out. That kind of feedback is humbling and it makes the solitary act of writing, recording, and travelling feel less lonely, more like an ongoing conversation. To those who’ve stopped by, listened to a song, or left a comment: thank you.

Looking back across a decade’s worth of words is both a little daunting and a little awe-inspiring. But more than anything, it makes me grateful for the music, for the stories, and for all of you who’ve come along for the ride.

Here’s to whatever comes next. I hope you’ll keep listening, keep reading, and maybe even keep telling me what you hear in the songs.

With love and lyrics (IYKYK)
