Steal and Share this post about Live Music!

A very happy summer to you all! Yes I’ve been a little quiet, but a lot of that was due to being very busy, followed by, well, not.

Greetings to you from the Wildwoods in New Jersey. Been taking some time here to just listen to the ocean, hang out by the beach, and most importantly spend time with family. I come from a pretty large clan, so it usually takes a little bit of effort to try and get everybody together. We’ve been able to do that for this week, and it’s been wonderful.

I haven’t really been able to get out to see much live music here, and I didn’t even bring my own guitar (sadly a casualty of not enough space in the car) but it really has been a fantastic summer of live music so far.

This year, I’ve been able to catch Jabbering Trout (twice!!), Alex and the People, Stick Men (Tony Levin’s side band), Sub-Radio, Andrew Geano, and Jukebox the Ghost in addition to enjoying the shows of the people I have personally shared a stage with. For those of you who don’t know these bands…

Jabbering Trout is the ongoing project of Tom Burris – the last remaining member of the band’s original incarnation back in the 1990s.  Lots of jam band vibes with 90s indie flavor in a 3 piece (including my dear friend and musical collaborator, Terrance Reeves). Catch them around Boston when you can.

And you can often catch them at about the same time you can find Alex and the People.  Alex has surrounded himself with a somewhat shifting group of talented artists, playing songs that make for an absolutely excellent night out.

And of course Andrew is a dear friend, and Jen and I just enjoy catching him whenever he’s playing in the neighborhood.

(PS – both Alex and Tom are my inspiration and fuel my commitment to get a gang of folks together to play my tunes in a full band sitch.  It’ll happen. Oh yes, it’ll happen.)

And I have to plug the other three acts I got to see:

First was Stick Men, with Tony Levin playing a host of old King Crimson and his own tunes. A true prog rock heaven at TCAN with some good friends.

Followed by Sub-Radio – easily the most fun and singable show we’ve seen this year! (Seriously, check this band out, they’re awesome, and coming up fast!) fun, clever, and warm. So good! And yes, we were possibly the oldest people in the audience, but NO ONE CARES.

And then finally we caught Jukebox the Ghost over in Cambridge. We’ve been big fans of (guitarist) Tommy Siegel as a cartoonist for a while, and always knew that he was in a band. But then we actually started to listen to some of the stuff that he does, and fell in love with them too. If you want to listen to a band that is probably Queen’s rightful heir, check this out.

But wait, there’s more!

That’s right, the summer isn’t over. First, Jabbering Trout will be playing here in Newton Highlands on Friday night. Come on out and hopefully I’ll run into you there.

And of course, I have a whole set of things coming up, including:

  • Belmont, MA Porchfest, September 7
  • Open Mic America, September 15
  • ISSA at the Hotel Vernon (Worcester), September 22, and
  • Our Showcase at One Broadway (Lawrence), October 20

Details here, for all

The summer isn’t over yet, and it feels like there’s a tremendous amount of joy in the air. Come on out and let’s make some great music together.

You all have been a huge help getting my music into the world. Please help me spread the word about my own shows, and those of these other wonderful small or indie or local bands as well.

Thank you!
